Proliferation is the third stage of wound healing where visible closure finally begins. New tissue called granulation tissue fills the wound from bottom up, appearing as bumpy pink tissue. New blood vessels form creating the blood supply this tissue needs. Fibroblasts produce collagen, the structural protein forming scar tissue. Wound edges contract inward as myofibroblasts pull them together. This stage lasts 2-3 weeks for most common types of wounds. Proper moisture balance during proliferation is critical?wounds need to stay moist but not soaking wet. Wound healing spray maintains ideal moisture supporting this crucial tissue-building stage.
