3. Carry small change with you so that you don't have to pay large bills at many places throughout India including restaurants, hotels and shops (especially when shopping). It's always best not to count out large denominations because they may refuse them if they think they won't fit in their.

4. Go with a guide. The best places in India are not always the easiest to reach — and getting there requires plenty of backtracking. So if you want to see the real India, go on a guided tour. And don't just look at photos — actually talk to locals as they tell their stories about their region and its people.
