The damage in Jersey Shore communities affected by Superstorm Sandy prompted Governor Christie’s administration to make coastal protection projects a priority. As a result, the Department of Environmental Protection, along with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, have been trying to secure signed easements from beachfront property owners along the New Jersey coastline to construct protective sand dunes designed to prevent further erosion caused by storm surge and flooding. It has been three and a half years since the storm and some beach projects have not yet been completed.
